How to sell digital products in Nigeria and get paid safely
If you can make something digital, you can sell it: templates, designs, e-books, courses, presets, software tools, or your time as a service (graphics, editing, social media management, websites). Many Nigerians already do this through WhatsApp status, Instagram and Telegram. The hard part isn't making the product. It's getting buyers to trust you, and getting paid without problems.
What sells
- Templates and designs: website templates, CV templates, flyers, social media kits.
- Learning: courses, guides, e-books, recorded classes.
- Software and licenses: tools you built, or licenses you are allowed to resell.
- Services: design, video editing, writing, social media management, web development.
Sell only what you own or are allowed to sell. Reselling things you have no right to sell, like cracked software or other people's courses, gets you into trouble and destroys trust.
Write a listing people trust
Buyers trust sellers who are clear. For every product, say:
- Exactly what the buyer gets. "A 12-page Canva template, editable, with fonts included" is better than "nice template".
- How it is delivered. Download link, login, email, or done by you.
- How long it takes. Instant, within 24 hours, within 3 days.
- What it doesn't include. Being honest here prevents disputes later.
- Real examples of your work. Screenshots or samples you made yourself.
Protect yourself from bad buyers
Sellers get scammed too:
- Fake payment screenshots. Always confirm the money is actually in your account, not in a picture.
- "I'll pay after." Many people never do.
- Chargebacks and false complaints. Keep your chat and delivery proof.
Get paid without chasing anyone
The cleanest way to sell to strangers is through escrow. The buyer's money is held before you start, so you know it's real, and you are paid as soon as they confirm the order works. You don't deliver to someone who hasn't paid, and you don't chase anyone for payment.
Selling on PlugZone
PlugZone is a marketplace for digital products and services in Nigeria. Sellers are called plugs. When the marketplace opens:
- Listing is free. A plug's first listings are checked by our team before they go live.
- The buyer's money is held in escrow before you deliver.
- You are paid when the buyer confirms, or automatically when the review window ends with no dispute.
- If a buyer opens a dispute, you get 2 hours to fix it before a PlugZone admin decides.
- PlugZone keeps 7% on goods and 10% on services, only when an order is released.
- You withdraw your earnings to a Nigerian bank account. See What plugs pay, and when for the fees.
Read the Rules for plugs to see what you can sell. The marketplace is opening soon. Create a free account now, so you're ready to open your shop when it does.
